I will greatly miss my dear brother Ian.
Ian Marius van Uden was born on 12th February 1959 in Skegness Hospital. I remember riding my bike, aged 11, to the hospital in an attempt to visit, but they wouldn’t let me in!
Over the next few years Ian developed into a very earnest young man, being a good swimmer and on one occasion I think Ian was about 10, he entered a sponsored swim at so much per length. After 50 lengths they had to get him to stop and our parents had to go round to all his sponsors agreeing a cap to their sponsorship to avoid numerous bankruptcies!
As a young lad Ian had a green knitted beanie hat, I think Mum or Gran kitted it, never off his head from morning to night!
Ian spent his school years in March. Recreation mainly revolved around motor bikes, playing pool, collecting records and the local pub with his many friends.
As he grew up his passion was music and for many years he was the Flying Dutchman DJ at Slacks’ Night Club in March and other events.
His day job found him managing an electrical retailers in March. He was their top salesman for several years, which saw him rewarded with holidays to Spain and Italy. The chain was sold to Curry’s and Ian was transferred to Queensgate shopping centre Peterborough. There he had to comply with Curry’s rules -corporate life didn’t suit Ian so he quit!
Somehow he got into painting and decorating at which he excelled and spent many years self employed.
The love of Ian’s life Anne came on the scene in 1994 and for the last 32 years they have been a partnership.
I nearly forgot to mention Ian’s other love -Larzie his faithful dog, which both Anne & Ian adored until his parting at the grand age of nearly 15!
Ian was a kind and generous sole as many who knew him can attest, and will be sorely missed.
He was a loyal partner to Anne, a brother, an uncle and a friend to many.
I will miss you dearly Ian, love Tony
Mr Tony van uden
